Sand Flea Rake
May 4, 2009 Gear
A Sand Flea Rake is used to catch mole crabs, aka sand fleas . I am not sure how common it may be, but my nephews call them crigger jiggers. Anyway, sand fleas are the perfect bait for fish that feed right in the surf zone. Catching them by hand can be back breaking and time consuming.
The typical sand flea rake is constructed of a sturdy aluminum handle and basket. It is basically a shovel and a sifter all in one. You search for sands fleas in the tide line and scoop up the sand. Then you hold the basket in the water while the excess sand is washed away. If everything goes well, you have a basket full of the world's greatest Pompano bait.
